Messages.
Chat with clients and with your team in real time: direct messages, groups, images, files and voice notes, all inside UpRush.
Messages is UpRush’s built-in chat. It’s for the quick back-and-forth that doesn’t belong on a single task: "are you around for a call?", "loved the first pass", "can you send the logo files again?". Client conversations and team conversations live side by side, so nobody has to leave UpRush for a separate chat app to talk about the work.
Where conversations live
Open Messages from the dock. The list on the left has up to two sections:
| Section | What’s in it | Who sees it |
|---|---|---|
| Clients | One conversation per client organization, shared between the client’s people and your team. | Owners and Admins see every client conversation. A Dedicated Expert sees the conversations for the clients they’re assigned to. |
| Team | Direct messages and groups between internal members. | Every internal member, for the conversations they’re part of. |
Each row shows the latest message and an unread count. If you started typing and left, the row shows your Draft: so you can pick up where you were.
Clients open Messages from their portal and land straight in their conversation with your team, headed with their Dedicated Expert’s name (or "the team" if none is assigned). They never see internal Team conversations.
Starting a conversation
- Click the New message button at the top of the list.
- Choose Direct for a one-to-one chat or Group for several people.
- For a group, give it a Group name.
- Pick the people (Message for a direct chat, Add people for a group).
- Click Start chat or Create group.
In a group, the members button in the header shows who’s in it. Add more people with Add member. The person who created the group can rename it and remove people; anyone can leave. Someone who leaves can be added back later.
Writing messages
- Press
Enterto send andShift+Enterfor a new line. - Format as you type with the toolbar above the field: Bold, Italic, Strikethrough, Code, List and Numbered list.
⌘Band⌘I(orCtrl+BandCtrl+I) work too. - Links become tidy chips.
- Hover a message and use React to message to add an emoji reaction.
Images and files
Click Attach files, paste, or drop files anywhere on the composer. Images show inline and open full size when clicked; other files show as cards you can open or download. Before sending, you can rename an attachment or remove it. Images can be up to 10 MB and other files up to 250 MB.
Voice messages
- Click Record a voice message. The first time, your browser asks for microphone access.
- Talk. A voice message can run up to 5 minutes.
- Click Stop recording. Play it back if you like, or use Discard this recording to start over.
- Click Send voice message.
Editing and deleting
Open Message options on one of your own messages. Edit is available for 15 minutes after sending. Delete removes the message and leaves a "Message deleted" marker so the conversation still makes sense.
Knowing it landed
- Your messages show a single tick when sent and a double mint tick once they’ve been read.
- A dot beside a name means they’re online, and "typing…" shows when they’re writing.
- New messages arrive instantly, with a quiet sound for internal members if sounds are on. See Notifications.
- A pink dot on Messages in the dock means something’s unread.
