Storyboards.

Build a storyboard frame by frame with action and voice-over, present it full screen, save versions, and collect notes from your team, your client or a guest reviewer.

A storyboard in UpRush is a living document, not a PDF you email around. Each frame holds an image, what happens (the ACTION) and what’s said over it (the VOICE-OVER). Your team builds it together, comments on individual frames, presents it full screen in the pitch, and shares it with the client when it’s ready. Every frame’s conversation stays with the frame.

Creating a storyboard

  1. Open Library in the dock and switch to the Storyboards tab.
  2. Click New storyboard.
  3. Give it a Title, for example "Launch film: v1 board".
  4. Optionally pick a Project. Attaching one is what lets you share the board with that project’s client later.
  5. Optionally pick a Task from that project, so the board is filed with the request it belongs to.
  6. Create it. The editor opens on a fresh board.

Owners, Admins, Team Managers and Dedicated Experts create and edit storyboards. Storyboards attached to a task also appear at the top of that task’s Files tab, and you can attach one to a deliverable with Attach a storyboard so it goes out to the client with the rest of the work.

Building frames

The editor has three columns: the Frames rail on the left, the selected frame in the middle, and the notes rail on the right.

  1. Click Add frame at the bottom of the Frames rail.
  2. Add an image: drop one onto the frame, paste it from your clipboard, or click to upload. Images can be up to 25 MB.
  3. Under ACTION, describe what happens in the frame.
  4. Under VOICE-OVER, write what is said over it.
  5. Repeat for the next frame. Text saves as you go.
  • Reorder frames by dragging them in the rail.
  • Delete a frame with the trash icon on its thumbnail. Its image, text and notes go with it.
  • Each thumbnail shows a count of open notes on that frame, so you can see where the conversation is.
  • Rename the board by clicking its title in the header.

Notes on frames

The notes rail shows the conversation for the selected frame. Like the review viewer, it has two streams: Internal for your team and Client for what the client sees. Notes can be replied to, edited by their author, resolved, reopened and deleted. Use Hide notes in the header for more room to work, and Show notes to bring them back.

Presenting

Click Present in the header to show the board one frame at a time, filling the screen: the image large, the action underneath, the voice-over as a caption, and a counter showing where you are.

→Next frame. ↓ and Space do the same.
←Previous frame. ↑ does the same.
EscExit present mode.

Saving versions

A saved version is a snapshot of every frame as it stands, images included, so you can always look back at what the client saw in round one.

  1. Click Save version in the header.
  2. Optionally say what changed ("What changed? (optional)").
  3. Save. You’ll see, for example, "Saved v2".

To look at an older version, open the version pill (it shows the current number, such as v3) and pick one from Saved versions. A banner reads, for example, "Viewing v1. This is a saved snapshot, not the live board." Snapshots are read-only; click Back to latest to return. Saved versions are internal: clients only ever see the live board.

Sharing with the client

Every board is either Internal or Client-visible, set with the toggle in the header.

  1. Make sure the board is attached to a project for that client.
  2. Switch the header toggle to Client-visible.
  3. Confirm with Share it. The client will see every frame, its images and the Client-stream notes. Internal notes stay internal.

In their portal, the client gets a presenter view: one big frame, previous and next, the words underneath, a strip of thumbnails to jump with, and the notes beside it. They can leave notes on any frame and download the board as a PDF. If the board is attached to a deliverable that’s waiting on them, a bar under the header reads "Ready for your review. Approve the work or request changes." with Approve and Request changes buttons (feedback is required to request changes). See Approvals.

To show the board to someone without an account, open the More storyboard options menu (the ⋯ in the header) and choose Create review link. The link is copied to your clipboard. It stays live for 60 days, and each board has one link: the same menu item then reads Copy review link.

  • Guests see the board in the same presenter view as clients, with the Client-stream notes only.
  • They can leave notes after giving a name. They can’t resolve, edit or delete anything.
  • Choose Revoke review link to close it. Notes they already left stay.
