Audio review.
Review mixes, voice-overs and music on a zoomable waveform, and leave notes on a moment or on a whole section you drag across.
Sound has no picture to point at, so UpRush gives it one. Audio files open with a large waveform that acts as the map of the file: click to go somewhere, drag to mark a section, and see every note in the round laid out on the same timeline. It works for mixes, voice-over takes, music cues and podcasts alike.
The waveform
- Click anywhere on the waveform to seek there.
- Drag across it to mark a section. The section is highlighted and attached to the note you’re writing.
- The pink line is the playhead. The played part of the waveform is darker than what’s still to come.
- Under the waveform, a lane shows every note: single moments as ticks and sections as spans, each in its author’s color. Click one to jump there and open the note.
If a file’s format doesn’t give UpRush a waveform, you’ll see "No waveform for this format. The player still works." Playback and timed notes work as normal.
Zooming in
On a long mix, one pixel can cover several seconds. Use the zoom toggle on the waveform card to switch between 1x, 4x and 8x.
- When zoomed, an overview strip of the whole file appears underneath with the visible window outlined. Click or drag on it to move around.
- A horizontal scroll (a sideways trackpad swipe) pans the zoomed view.
- During playback the view pages forward a screen at a time, like a tape machine, so the bars stay readable.
- 1x resets to the whole file.
Leaving a note on a moment
- Play or click to the moment you mean.
- Press
Cor click into the composer. The note is stamped with the current time. - Write the note and post it. A tick appears in the lane.
Leaving a note on a section
- Drag across the waveform from where the section starts to where it ends.
- Write your note ("the music fights the VO here") in the composer.
- Post it. The section appears as a span in the lane.
To undo a selection before posting, use the ✕ on the waveform ("Clear the marked section") or the one on the chip above the composer, or press Esc. The note then goes back to being stamped at the playhead.
On the rail, click a section note’s time ("Jump to the start of this section") to hear it from the top.
Keyboard shortcuts
Good to know
- There are no drawing tools on audio. There’s nothing to draw on, so the waveform takes their place.
- Playback speed and the remembered volume level work the same way as on video. See Video review.
- Versions work as usual, but Compare doesn’t apply to audio. Switch between versions with the version pill to A/B two mixes.
- Clients and guests with a link can leave timed and section notes too, on the Client stream.
