Video review.

Step through a cut frame by frame, leave notes stamped to the exact timecode, draw on a frame, and set the thumbnail everyone sees.

For everyoneUpdated 2026-10-07

Video opens in UpRush’s own player, built for review rather than for watching. The scrub track doubles as the round’s timeline: every note tied to a moment shows up as a tick in its author’s color, so you can see where the feedback clusters before you read a word of it.

Leaving a timed note

  1. Play or scrub to the moment you want to talk about, or step to the exact frame with the arrow keys.
  2. Press C (or click into the composer). The note is stamped with the current timecode, shown as a chip such as "At 0:12".
  3. Type your note. Type @ to mention a teammate.
  4. Post it. A tick appears on the scrub track at that moment.

Want the note to be about the whole cut instead? Click the ✕ on the timecode chip ("Drop the timecode") before posting.

Notes with a timecode show it on the rail. Click it ("Jump to this moment") to seek straight there.

Drawing on a frame

Sometimes "the logo’s too big" needs a circle around the logo. Pause on the frame, press D (or pick Draw freehand from the tool pill on the stage), and draw. You can also use Arrow, Rectangle and Ellipse. While you have an unposted drawing, a "Drawing at 0:12" badge sits on the stage; click it to jump back to that frame. Post the note and the drawing is saved with it, tied to that moment.

Full details on the tools, stroke widths and ink colors are in Drawing and annotations.

Setting the thumbnail

The thumbnail is the still people see on cards, as the poster before playback, and as the cover everywhere the cut appears. Owners, Admins, Team Managers and Dedicated Experts can change it.

  1. In the player, click Set thumbnail.
  2. Pick a frame from the grid under From the clip, or scrub the player to any frame and choose Use the current frame.
  3. Click Set thumbnail in the dialog. You’ll see "Thumbnail updated." and the new still appears across UpRush.

Formats that won’t play

If a cut is in a format the browser can’t decode (ProRes in a .mov is the usual suspect), attach an MP4 or WebM export with Add a review copy. Everyone reviews the copy, the player labels it "Review copy · master is MOV", and downloads still deliver the original. See The review viewer.

Comparing cuts

When a file has two or more versions, Compare lays them under a wipe you can drag across the frame. Side B plays in sync with side A, so you can watch both cuts together. See Versions and compare.
