Versions and compare.

Upload new versions without losing the old notes, switch between rounds, and compare two versions under a wipe or side by side.

For everyoneUpdated 2026-10-07

Creative work happens in rounds. In UpRush a file keeps every version you upload under one name, each with its own notes, so v3 doesn’t erase the conversation that produced it. When you need to see what changed, Compare puts two versions on screen together.

Uploading a new version

Owners, Admins, Team Managers and Dedicated Experts can add versions. There are three ways in:

  • In the review viewer, open the version pill (for example v2) and choose Upload new version….
  • On a task’s Files tab, open the file row menu and choose New version….
  • In the Library, open a file’s menu and choose New version….
  1. Choose one of the options above. The New version dialog opens.
  2. Drop the file in or click to browse. One file only: it becomes the next version.
  3. Optionally add a note under Note ("What changed?").
  4. Upload. You’ll see "New version uploaded", and the new version becomes the current one.

Version history

On a task’s Files tab, a file with more than one version shows a count beside its details, such as "3 versions". Click it to expand the history:

  • Each version shows its number, size, who uploaded it and when.
  • The current one wears a Current chip.
  • Download any version from its row.
  • Managing roles can use Make current to roll back to an earlier version.

Notes stay with their version

Every note is attached to the version it was written on. Switch versions with the version pill in the viewer and the rail shows that version’s notes. Notes from the other versions are listed further down under Notes from other versions, dimmed and marked with their version number, so you can check that every point from round 2 was handled in round 3.

Comparing two versions

The Compare button appears in the viewer’s top bar once a file has at least two versions. Anyone who can open the viewer can use it, including clients in their portal.

  1. Click Compare. UpRush opens the version you were on against the one before it.
  2. Use the version selectors on each side to pick any two versions.
  3. Read the difference (see below for how each file type compares).
  4. Click the button again (now reading Exit compare) or press Esc to go back.

Images and video: the wipe

Both versions sit in exactly the same spot, one over the other, with a divider between them: side A on the left, side B on the right. Drag the handle across the frame to reveal one through the other, so anything that moved or changed color jumps out. On video, the player drives side A and side B follows it in sync. Each side shows its own pins and drawings, read-only.

PDFs: side by side

Documents reflow when text changes, so a wipe would compare the wrong lines. PDFs open side by side instead and scroll together, page for page, even when the two versions have different page counts. Zoom is shared; Width and Page fit each side to its own column. On a phone, an A/B toggle switches which side you’re reading.

Audio

Audio doesn’t compare under a wipe. To A/B two mixes, switch between them with the version pill.

←Compare: nudge the wipe 1% to the left.
→Compare: nudge the wipe 1% to the right.
Shift← / Shift→Compare: nudge the wipe 5%.
SpaceCompare on video: play or pause both sides.
EscExit compare.

What guests see

A guest review link always shows the file’s latest version, with no version switcher and no compare. Upload a new version and anyone holding the link sees it the next time they open it.
