Comments and mentions.
Every task has two conversations: an internal stream clients never see, and a client stream you share with them. Mention people with @ to pull them in.
The Messages tab on a task holds its conversation, split into two streams that are impossible to confuse. The Internal stream is for your team only: clients never see it, it is simply never shown to them. The Client stream is the conversation you share with the client. Both update live, show who is typing, and mark new messages with a dot until you have read them.
The two streams
- Switch between Internal and Client at the top of the tab. Each shows a count, and a dot when something new arrived in the other one.
- Above the composer, a label states plainly where you are writing: Internal only (clients never see this stream) or Visible to client (the client will see this).
- The internal stream also carries a distinct marker down its left edge, so you can tell at a glance which one you are in.
- Clients only ever see the client stream, titled for them as their conversation with your team.
Post a comment
- Open the task's Messages tab and choose the stream.
- Write your message. Type @ to mention someone, then pick them from the list.
- Paste, drop or attach images (up to 4 per comment, 10 MB each).
- Select Post.
Mentions
A mention notifies that person directly. In the internal stream you can mention your team. In the client stream you can mention your team and the client's members. Notifications for mentions and comments link straight to the conversation, landing on the first message you have not seen. See Notifications.
Working with a comment
Hover a comment to reveal its actions:
| Action | Who | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Reply | Everyone | Replies stay in the same stream, one level deep. |
| React | Everyone | Adds an emoji reaction. |
| Create task | Your team | Turns the comment into a new task on the same client and project, with a link back to the message. |
| Edit | The author | Edits the text. Edited comments are marked. |
| Pin | Managers | Pins an important comment. |
| Resolve | The author or a manager | Marks a thread as resolved; Reopen brings it back. |
| Delete | The author or a manager | Removes the comment after you confirm. |
For conversations that are not about one task, use Messages. For feedback pinned to a frame, a timecode or a spot on an image, use the review viewer.
